April 30, 2004—Hekman Contract, a division of the Hekman Furniture Company, has introduced SmartMoves, created by designer Tom Newhouse. SmartMoves is reportedly the office furniture industrys first line of fully ergonomically adjustable wood casegoods in which every component in the offering is height adjustable in a 6-inch range—from 26″ to 32″, accommodating over 90 percent of the body types in todays workforce.
Todays office seating products provide comprehensive adjustments to achieve proper ergonomic positions, but that careful positioning is too often undone by a fixed-height desk, says Hekman. A twist of the patented leg mechanisms in SmartMoves and a work setting for a 64″ person can be adjusted to meet the ergonomic needs of a 411″ person. In addition, an integrated sit-to-stand surface provides even more ergonomic support, as well as allowing the user to make posture changes throughout the workday.
Other features include:
- Overhead door that never exposes its underside but still enables using the top surface.
- Invisible drawer glide mechanisms.
- Range of application allows for a highly distinctive version of SmartMoves with fine wood veneers for an executive office, and an attractive laminate version of SmartMoves for the adjacent work settings.
- Easy wire and cable management.
- Versatile rail on the back panel for mounting a variety of work tools, also strong enough to support monitor arms for flat-panel displays.
- Integrated lighting options.
- Wood solids and veneers are sourced from certified wood suppliers who participate in various sustainable forestry programs.
- All stains are water based, and all metal components are powder coated or plated with lowest possible environmental impact “trivalent” chemistry.
- Most of the wood cores are a wheat-waste composite, ensuring total renewability.
SmartMoves, which will debut SmartMoves at this years NeoCon, will be available for order entry in July. For more information on SmartMoves, visit Hekman.
