“Herman Miller sets records for second quarter, exceeding any quarter in 77 years”

Herman Miller, Inc., announced results for the second quarter ended December 2, 2000. Sales, net income and earnings per share were all records, exceeding any quarter in the company’s 77-year history. Sales for the quarter were $592.5 million, net income for the quarter was $42.3 million, and earnings per share were $.54. Orders were a record for any second quarter at $562.7 million and backlog at quarter-end was $334.5 million.

Net sales grew 27.7 percent and orders grew 19.8 percent for the quarter, when compared to the same period last year. Domestic sales increased 27.4 percent and new orders increased 20.2 percent when compared to the second quarter of last year, outpacing the industry according to Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) statistics, according to Herman Miller.

Net sales of international operations and exports from the US increased 28.9 percent, to $93.6 million in the second quarter, compared to 72.6 million in the same period last year.
