Herman Miller’s Space Utilization Service receives CoreNet’s Industry Excellence Award

May 14, 2008—Herman Miller, Inc.’s Space Utilization Service won the Industry Excellence Award from CoreNet Global. The award highlights corporate real estate industry performance and innovation. It also qualifies the company for the distinguished H. Bruce Russell Global Innovator’s Award, which will be announced at the CoreNet Global North American Fall Summit in November.

The Space Utilization Service is based on a patent-pending, wireless technology developed by Herman Miller to measure space occupancy in building environments. Sensors temporarily attach to the underside of chairs or work surfaces and continuously collect movement data to provide results that may be studied to improve workflow and space usage, explains the company.

Space Utilization Service studies are led by the Herman Miller Workplace Services team and typically last three weeks. Study costs are comparable to traditional data collection methods and calculated according to the size and scope of a project.

The new technology will be among the featured elements in Herman Miller’s third floor showroom at the upcoming 2008 NeoCon World’s Trade Fair, to be held in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart, June 9-11.
