Herman Miller’s systems furniture, filing and storage earns GREENGUARD IAQ certification

November 14, 2003—The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) has awarded GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification to Herman Miller, Inc.’s major lines of systems furniture, filing and storage, excluding optional wood veneers. The Certification includes the Herman Miller Meridian branded products. This marks the completion of the second stage of Herman Miller’s GREENGUARD Certification process, after achieving GREENGUARD certification for their complete office seating product lines in July 2003. The systems furniture and filing and storage were tested according to the stringent GREENGUARD Standards for low emitting products. The products were proven to have minimal impact on the indoor environment, and will be monitored on a quarterly basis to ensure ongoing indoor air quality performance.

GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified furniture and furnishings enable architects and designers to achieve points for the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) Program. GREENGUARD tested and certified office furniture is a requirement stated reference for Credit 4.5 in the Indoor Environmental Quality section. Furthermore, GREENGUARD Certified Products help to meet indoor air quality baseline testing requirements.

Common interior furnishings and building materials release into the indoor environment odorous or potentially irritating contaminants, which may negatively affect people’s health. Products certified by the GEI help reduce indoor air pollution significantly. Builders, architects, interior designers, specifying professionals, and consumers can use GREENGUARD Certified Products to create superior interior environments. The GEI provides a free online guide to GREENGUARD tested and certified products to help those in the building/design industry and consumers locate low emitting products.
