May 14, 2004—A new modular approach to the iCLASS family of read/write contactless smart card products designed for fingerprint verification applications has been announced by HID, manufacturer of contactless access control cards and readers for the security industry.
Using 13.56 MHz contactless smart card technology, the bioCLASS product line provides users with new options for supporting multi-authentication identity. It provides three levels of security verification: card only; card and personal identification number (PIN); or card, PIN, and fingerprint verification.
The bioCLASS model number RWKLB575 is a read/write contactless smart card reader that includes a keypad, LCD display, right or left-hand ADA-standard finger pad sensor and fingerprint biometric verification module.
The bioCLASS model number RWKLB550 is a read/write contactless smart card reader that includes a keypad and LCD display. The bioCLASS BIO500 fingerprint verification module addition is used to field upgrade existing RWKL550 keypad readers, allowing for increased flexibility for future security needs without discarding the entire system.
The RWKLB575 and RWKLB550 LCD displays are customizable to include multilingual messages and logos, for example. Both products also feature custom configurable buttons in addition to the standard 12-button keypad.
