June 15, 2026 — While we’re already halfway through June, I would be remiss not to mention the very strong jobs report for May where the economy added 172,000 jobs — again, more than economists had predicted. Unemployment stayed at 4.3%. After a year of trade policy uncertainty and pendulum swings, immigration labor force disruption and diminishing size of the federal government, the demand for labor is increasing. Collectively, there were 93,000 more jobs added in March and April than previously reported, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

In May, healthcare continued to be a major contributor to employment growth, adding 35,000 jobs, while social assistance employment rose by 12,000. The healthcare built environment will need to respond to the increase in aging baby boomers, chronic illness rates, mental health concerns, and expansion of telehealth and outpatient services. Further, healthcare IT is growing at 2x the national average. Clinical analysts, data engineers, and systems analysts are in demand as health systems digitize and tech dominates, according to Healthcare Hiring in 2026: Where the Real Growth Is by Brian Will.
