December 30, 2002—The Building Control Solutions business of Honeywell has incorporated Echelon’s LNS software platform and network operating system into its EXCEL 5000 OPEN(TM) System. Echelon Corporation is the creator of the LonWorks device networking platform for networking everyday devices to each other and the Internet.
The EXCEL 5000 OPEN System is Honeywell’s flagship product line for building automation and controls. Honeywell is releasing the CARE 4.0 network configuration and engineering software that now includes an LNS core—making it compatible with any LonWorks based device from Honeywell or any of the 400 LonMark certified interoperable products available on the market. Additionally, Honeywell has updated its proven Excel 50 and Excel 500 plant controllers to include LonWorks networking. Honeywell has also created LNS device plug-ins for the Excel 10 devices within the EXCEL 5000 OPEN System enabling the company to offer an open LNS and LonWorks-based building automation backbone.
The EXCEL 5000 OPEN System is an open architecture approach that utilizes LonWorks based devices at the unitary control and simple I/O level that are in turn tied to supervisory level systems. Honeywell offers several LNS based workstations for the EXCEL 5000 OPEN System, including Enterprise Building Integrator, SymmetrE and ACSELON.
The LonWorks device networking platform is used by manufacturers to create automation applications that sense, process, actuate, monitor and control. Examples of such applications include HVAC and lighting systems in commercial buildings, subway train cabin controls, train braking systems, baggage handling systems, parts supply lines, painting machines and thousands of others. The LNS network operating system and software platform is a part of LonWorks solutions that allows for remote access and easy management either locally or over the Internet.
