Hotel market taps PowerCold for environmentally friendly HVAC systems

March 19, 2004—PowerCold has reported an increasing rate of growth in the hotel market for its energy efficient and environmentally friendly HVAC systems. The Wingate Inn, in Bozeman, MT, was recently awarded a 2003 ENERGY STAR Small Business and Congregation Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is the second ENERGY STAR recognition received by the Wingate Inn that has installed the PowerCold patented HVAC system. In 2002, the hotel received the ENERGY STAR Bronze Label for Commercial Buildings.

In addition to the Wingate, another Montana hotel utilizing the PowerCold patented HVAC system also earned the ENERGY STAR Label. The Laurel Super 8 Motel received an ENERGY STAR Bronze Label for Commercial Buildings in 2002. The Laurel Super 8 also received the 2001 “Excellence and Innovation in Energy Efficiency and Building Management” Award, sponsored by Energy User News. The Wingate Inn and the Super 8 Motel were among the first hotels in the U.S. to be awarded the ENERGY STAR Bronze Label for Commercial Buildings.

PowerCold’s patented Integrated Piping System design uses the structure’s existing hot water pipes for heating and its cold water sprinkler system pipes for air conditioning. The dual use of these existing pipes significantly reduces the initial installation cost compared to alternative systems that require four pipes throughout the building to achieve the same heating and cooling.
