June 14, 2002—Humanscale Corporation’s new task light called Diffrient Light, named after its renowned industrial designer Niels Diffrient, received a Silver Award in The Best of NeoCon 2002 competition held at the Merchandise Mart, Chicago, in June. It was lauded for innovative uses of recent advancements in electronics of lighting, such as mini fluorescents and electronic ballasts. The 26-watt, quad tube, miniature fluorescent bulb, and inline electronic ballast provide a cool light source with up to four times the bulb life of traditional incande scent bulbs (10,000 hour life), while reducing energy consumption by as much as two-thirds.
Made of anodized aluminum, the parallel arms maintain reflector shade position during placement and the double arms allow light to reach 42-in. from the base. Providing glare free lighting on both desktop and computer screen, the parabolic reflector shade is adjustable 360-degree horizontally and 220 degree vertically. The Diffrient Light is both light and cool to the touch for one-hand positioning and burn safety.
