December 22, 2003—Humanscale announced the debut of the L2 Notebook Manager, designed to facilitate use of a notebook computer at a workstation. The L2 Notebook Manager allows users to take advantage of their notebooks hi-resolution LCD screen, while enjoying the health and comfort of using a full-size keyboard and external mouse. In fact, use of the L2 eliminates much of the discomfort and strain associated with prolonged notebook computer use.
Ergonomic principles dictate that the screen and keyboard be separated. However, the convenience and mobility of notebook computers have lead to their use as full-time desktop computers for many office workers. When a notebook computer is set upon a workstation surface the screen is too low to be viewed comfortably by most users, forcing them to hunch over the computer screen. In addition, a notebooks smaller keyboard and tracking device can be difficult to manipulate, encouraging the user to type and mouse in high-risk postures.
The L2 addresses the ergonomic concerns associated with prolonged notebook computer use by requiring the use of an external keyboard and mouse. The L2 allows the notebook computers screen height to be adjusted 5 inches, so it can be easily positioned at eye level, while the 360 of rotation facilitates collaborative work. The external keyboard and mouse can then be used with a keyboard platform, allowing the user to type with a neutral wrist posture.
Winner of a Grand Prize in the 2003 Innovations competition, sponsored by Buildings Magazine and presented at NeoCon, the L2 also includes an in-line document holder, cord management, security keyholes and heat ventilation. It can accommodate the use of most docking stations.
The L2 will retail for $195. For more information, contact Humanscale or call 800-400-0625.
