HVCA takes action on sustainability in UK

October 25, 2005—The Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA) in the UK has responded to the increasing focus on sustainability in construction with the formation of a Sustainability Issues Group. A dedicated area of the HVCA Web site is also being developed to allow members to make a thorough contribution to the development of a truly sustainable built environment.

The increasing international focus on sustainability in construction presents both challenges and opportunities for the building services engineering sector. HVCA views “sustainability” as a collective term with a mass of implications for the planet as a whole, encompassing such aspects as the efficient generation and use of energy; the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels, and the minimization of waste in all its manifestations.

For the HVAC sector, HVCA says the primary focus must be on the design, installation, and maintenance of services that contribute to such goals, and so cause the least possible damage to the environment.
