June 20, 2003—A large number of manufacturers have made the indoor air quality performance of their products a key feature at Neocon World’s Trade Fair, recently held in Chicago. With a wave of manufacturers announcing or offering third party certified low emitting products, designers can now specify indoor air quality friendly products without having to compromise on style, functionality, or price.
Major office furniture manufacturers Teknion and Knoll announced GREENGUARD Certification of their office furniture products this month, Omnova Solutions added new low emitting wallcovering products to their already extensive low emitting GREENGUARD Certified offerings, and Knoll Textiles announced their certified low emitting textile products.
“Indoor environmental quality has always been a basic responsibility of interior design, but the designers were left with the burden of finding low emitting products,” said Henning Bloech, Director of Communications for the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute.
“GREENGUARD Certification has simplified this process, because every product that carries the GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified mark can be specified with confidence as a third party tested and certified low emitting product.” He added, “Choice and a variety of product options are essential for design professionals, because let’s face it, in the end, form and function sell the project. With a fast growing number of visionary manufacturers such as Knoll, Teknion, and Omnova representing thousands of certified low emitting products from furniture to wallcoverings, designing high quality indoor spaces has never been easier.”
As an added benefit, GREENGUARD tested or certified furniture and furnishings are a requirement for the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) Program. LEED-CI projects can earn Credit 4.5 in the Indoor Environmental Quality area by specifying certified furniture.
