January 7, 2011—ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA recently released The Green Business Challenge Guidebook, a step-by-step guidance document on how to develop and launch a Green Business Challenge program in a city or county.
The Challenge is a friendly competition to engage commercial property managers, office tenants and other business sectors to improve energy efficiency, conserve water, reduce waste and involve their employees in a concerted effort to improve the environmental performance of their businesses.
The Guidebook will assist local governments in customizing a program to meet local goals. It distills the lessons learned from seven local governments that have launched successful Green Business Challenge programs. The Guidebook includes step-by-step guidance as well as administrative tools, templates, best practices and other resources to ensure success.
Launching a Green Business Challenge program can be a primary means to engage the local business community to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote sustainability, and reach the community’s climate and energy goals.
