IDA launches Fixture Seal of Approval program

May 20, 2005—The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), which focuses on solutions to light pollution, has launched a Fixture Seal of Approval (FSA) program.

According to the association, the FSA program aims to synthesize the best information available on what features a luminaire must possess to qualify as dark sky friendly.

AC Lighting Design, Light By Hutton, and Architectural Area Lighting were among the first manufacturers to apply for approval under the pilot program, with Visionaire and Louis Poulsen Lighting right behind. All five manufacturers invited to participate were eager to do so, and each submitted fixtures which became IDA-Approved, says the association.

IDA-Approved fixtures gain use of IDAs official seal of approval for use in sales, marketing, technical, and packaging materials. Manufacturers will receive a certificate of approval with a list of the approved luminaires. Manufacturers will also receive premier listing in an IDA-Approved Dark-Sky Friendly Fixtures section of the association Web site. For more information, visit IDA.
