May 24, 2006—The National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) has been updated and is now available for advanced orders through the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), with a launch date of August 1, 2006.
The code, which is used throughout the US and in over 100 countries, offers practical guidance on how to safeguard employees and the public when electrical supply and communication lines are designed, installed, operated and maintained. It is updated every five years to reflect changes in the electrical and communications industries.
Some of the topics that have been changed in the 2007 version involve metal grounding poles, worker loads, starting voltages and clearances, and multiplex cable attachment to neutral brackets.
In addition, the 2007 version includes new appendices on loading and conductor movement, extreme wind loading, and maximum over-voltage at a work site. The cost is $130 for members, $105 for nonmembers. To order online, visit the IEEE Web site.
