May 28, 2004—The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and the Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA) have signed a Partners in FM Excellence Agreement to share services, standards, research and knowledge about the facility management profession. The agreement, designed to promote international collaboration, enables members to enjoy the benefits of both organizations at no extra cost and at a common discount for events, training and publications.
Partners in FM Excellence now links up to 28,000 FM association members worldwide in four organizations: IFMA, FMA, the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) and the Irish Property and Facility Management Association. IFMA has more than 17,000 members in 54 countries around the world, while FMA has more than 1,500.
FMA Australia is the largest and most respected facility management professional association in Australia, representing those who make the decisions about Australia’s workplaces. FMA’s members are professionals involved in the strategic and operational management of facilities in public and private sector organizations. Since its establishment more than 14 years ago the FMA has seen significant growth, currently counting more than 1,300 members nationally. With branches in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory, the FMA works to represent the national interests of facility managers and the industry sector.
FMA Australia seeks to promote the profession and increase understanding of the role of FM to business and the wider community. This includes encouraging the development of university courses in facility management, representing the interests of the industry to government and regulatory bodies, and encouraging wider promotion of facility management to senior management and media organizations.
