International Facility Management Association (IFMA) is eliminating the Lifetime membership category and is creating a new category for members in good standing, Professional or Associate, who are retiring from practicing facility management full-time. The new retiree category will enable members to access information from IFMA’s Web site and IFMAnet for a nominal fee of $100. However, those who became Lifetime members before December 2000 will be “grandfathered” in, and full membership benefits will continue to apply at no cost.
Members in the new retiree category, which does not have an age requirement, will be able to access information from IFMA’s Web site and IFMAnet and will retain full rights and privileges. They will be able to serve on committees and task forces. Should a retiree return to work, the membership will be reclassified to either Professional or Associate.
A pilot program is currently being tested to “unbundle” membership benefits and create a new services system with e-delivery as its base. The result will be a menu format permitting members to sign up for e-delivery of services at a base price, with a set fee for additional services, such as hard copies of publications. The pilot program will also convert all student members to e-delivery on February 1, 2001. For further information contact IFMA.
