IFMA member survey identifies “Energy Wizards”

October 7, 2002—IFMA Headquarters recently sent an e-mail survey to a random sample of professional members to assess their knowledge and awareness of energy issues. Of the roughly 3000 surveys sent, 1235 were opened and 223 (7.5%) were filled out in detail. Those who filled out the survey turned out to be far more knowledgeable about energy than expected-earning them the title of “energy wizards.”

These IFMA members are contracting for electricity from independent suppliers, buying natural gas on the wholesale market, installing special metering to track energy use, and using web-based accounting systems.

According to IFMA, these energy wizards are saving an average of 13.4% on their annual energy bills. This survey response suggests that IFMA members are not particularly interested in energy while a small sub-set of members, the “energy wizards,” are taking action to save their companies significant dollars.
