December 11, 2002—The UK chapter of the International Facility Management Association is planning to launch an initiative on building sustainability in conjunction with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
The UK FM Building Sustainability Initiative, developed with the RICS Foundation and the RICS FM Faculty, follows the highly successful Building Sustainability Conference in Johannesburg, where representatives from the built environment professions and industry signed the Global Agreement for Building Sustainability.
The launch event, at the RICS in London on the February 27th, 2003, will be a call to action to the attendees to form work groups to share best practice and process improvement for sustainable development and management. The results will then be shared among the FM community.
Mike Liddle, president of the IFMA UK Chapter said: “We have a responsibility to influence every aspect of our profession to introduce best sustainable practices.”
The commitment made to GABS, and the vision for the future, will be outlined by both David Fitzpatrick, executive director of the RICS Foundation, the driving force behind the initial conference and Mike Liddle. Karen Karby of Swiss Reinsurance, who presented in Johannesburg, will share her experience of improving shareholder value through sustainable practices.
