International Interior Design Association Vice President of Communications Lewis Goetz, IIDA, and Hospitality Design Magazine announced the winners of the fourth annual IIDA/Hospitality Design Product Design Competition, held April 26-27, 2000, in conjunction with the HD 2000 Exposition & Conference, at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Las Vegas. The competition honors designers and manufacturers for excellence in product design for the hospitality industry.
A Best of Competition award was presented, in addition to awards in eight categories: lighting (individual); lighting (group); seating; specialties; textiles (bedspreads, casements, and draperies); textiles (upholstery); flooring (carpet); and flooring (hard surfaces). Five Honorable Mentions were presented, and no award was given in the category casegoods & freestanding furniture (individual).
Judging criteria included innovation; technical advancements; cost and value; environmental responsibility; aesthetics; need and usage; and client and user benefits, including performance, comfort, safety, suitability for intended use, durability, and accessibility.
