June 30, 2014—The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) recently named A2 arquitectos design studio as the winner of its 41st Annual Interior Design Competition for its Spa in Mallorca project in Porto Cristo, Spain.
The international competition celebrates outstanding, innovative interior design/interior architecture that encourages new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishings of interior spaces, the organization says. With its bold emphasis on light and open space, competition judges said A2 arquitectos’ project demonstrated a passion for design and innovation.
“The project’s repurposing of an existing space to take great advantage of the abundant natural light, along with its addition of a green roof, shows a commitment to bettering the lives of people through sustainable design and green thinking,” said Cheryl S. Durst, IIDA executive vice president and CEO. “This demonstrated commitment to changing people’s lives through design upholds the high standards that IIDA expects of the profession worldwide, and as such, we are pleased to honor A2 arquitectos as Best of Competition winner as part of our 20th anniversary celebration of IIDA.”
