May 28, 2008—Technology research firm In-Stat analyzed the energy efficiency of Local Area Network (LAN) switches from a variety of vendors for its new report, “Green Networking Equipment: Who Leads and Who Lags.” The report also explains the components of green networking and the effect they have on energy use.
The report found “significant differences” between similar equipment. According to In-Stat, 3Com LAN switches are as much as 60% more energy-efficient than those of other companies. With recent improvements, 3Com’s newest products actually use up to 78% less power than its previous switches
In-Stat also calculated the energy efficiency of 24-port and 48-port switches from leading vendors’ portfolios, and 3Com products were reportedly the clear leaders in energy efficiency in both categories.
