October 4, 2002—Inco Limited has selected Silicon Energy and Accenture to provide energy management products and business integration services designed to help the company more effectively develop energy management strategies, including new ways to manage energy usage and costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Inco one of the world’s premier mining and metals companies is seeking to move into the wholesale energy market following the recent deregulation of this market in Ontario, Canada.
Inco plans to use Silicon Energys EEM Suite (Enterprise Energy Management Suite) a real-time, Internet-based decision support system to establish two-way communications with the local energy market, verify invoices, and allocate energy costs to internal cost centers at its facilities.
The two-way communications are intended to provide up-to-the-minute pricing information while passing the companys energy demand schedules to the market, enabling Inco to obtain energy at the lowest cost. The EEM Suite should also enable Inco to implement budget variance analyses and to model energy usage to determine the impact of factors such as changing rates, weather and production data.
Accenture will provide Inco with a range of services, including business process design, technology and software implementation, change management and project management.
