Income rises for major energy companies in second quarter

September 3, 2001—Twenty-six major energy companies reported overall net income (excluding unusual items) of $13 billion on revenues of $216.1 billion during the second quarter of 2001, according to a new report by The US Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA). The level of net income represented a 10-percent increase relative to the second quarter of 2000.

The largest increases occurred in the petroleum industry (35 percent) and the natural gas and power industries (30 percent). Domestic petroleum companies saw a 38-percent increase in income, while domestic petroleum refining and marketing experienced a 78-percent increase.
