May 3, 2002—During the Texas Venture Capital Conference, InnerWireless Inc., an in-building wireless technology company, discussed how new in-building wireless communications environments will maximize the value of wireless services indoors and benefit commercial real estate owners, their tenants, and wireless service providers.
InnerMobile, the company’s breakthrough product, converges wireless voice and data onto a single, shared in-building infrastructure. According to the company, this technology is more efficient and effective than existing systems. As a company release put it, “Traditional coaxial cable solutions do not sufficiently scale to meet large building coverage needs. Fiber-based solutions are costly, requiring expensive electronic components, maintenance, and monitoring. Macro-network towers and antennas cannot provide adequate coverage inside multi-story office buildings and public areas such as malls, convention centers, and airports.”
InnerWireless now is finalizing installation plans in large office buildings in New York, Chicago, and Houston. Next year InnerWireless intends to expand internationally, where wireless penetration rates are higher and carriers are facing similar in-building coverage and capacity issues.
