October 8, 2002—The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) recently launched a nationwide grassroots campaign to support the push by President Bush to break a legislative stalemate on a terrorism insurance bill.
Calling for the terrorism insurance bill, President Bush said more than $15.5 billion worth of construction projects and 300,000 jobs are indefinitely on hold because builders can’t get insurance against terrorist attacks.
Members of PIA are being encouraged to call or e-mail the members of the House-Senate Conference and urge them to agree on a bill the President can sign.
The US Senate passed the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act of 2002 (S 2600) by a vote of 84-14 on June 18, 2002, paving the way for a House-Senate conference committee to resolve the differences between that bill and HR 3210, which was passed in November, 2001 by the House of Representatives.
