May 5, 2004—Intellum, Inc., an e-learning company based in Atlanta, GA, and Healthy Buildings International, Inc (HBI), provider of indoor environmental consulting services in Fairfax, VA, have launched their computer- based, e-learning course, Molds in Commercial Buildings, nationwide.
The Intellum and HBI program provides all employees with interactive, Web-based training curriculum designed to inform property owners, managers and engineers precisely what molds are, how they enter buildings, examine the specific damage they cause, their health effects on building occupants, how to prevent mold contamination, testing for molds and how to go about their remediation, with information concerning mold litigation and impending legislation.
This program is based on HBI’s 24 years experience studying molds in approximately 4,000 buildings located in 45 countries, together with their experience of delivering technical seminars to building operations staff. The objective: to help building managers and engineers deal with the burgeoning, costly issues molds present. Since the program is Internet-based trainees have access to the courses 24-hours a day, seven days a week, and modules can be accessed via a dial-up connection.
Studies performed by the American Society for Training and Development show that retention with web-based learning could increase by 40 percent versus conventional classroom training techniques. Intellum and HBI have been working on this module for several months and the initial client response has surpassed even their own high expectations.
When students complete all five parts of the course HBI will deliver a PDF version of a “Certificate of Completion,” and corporations will receive a quarterly report detailing the status of their employees with respect to their progress. These reports and certificates will help document for insurance purposes the comprehensive mold-training program adopted by the relevant company management.
