October 22, 2008—In an effort to reduce costly and damaging problems associated with high levels of moisture in concrete sub-floors, InterfaceFLOR, LLC, a leading manufacturer of carpet tile, has introduced MoistureGard 2.0, a moisture vapor protective barrier to help ensure effective installation of carpet tile over concrete slabs that contain high pH and/or moisture levels.
MoistureGard 2.0 can be used over concrete sub floors to protect against moisture vapor emission rates up to 15 pounds and alkalinity levels up to a pH of 12.0, says the company.
MoistureGard 2.0 is recommended for use with InterfaceFLOR-branded carpet tile products constructed with its GlasBac and GlasBacRE backing systems, and installed according to recommended instructions with the company’s TacTiles “no-glue” installation product that adheres carpet tiles to each other, but not to the floor.
Made of a three-layer, polypropylene plastic film that is four mils thick, MoistureGard 2.0 comes in rolls that are 62 inches wide and hold 344 square yards, a size that a single installer can easily handle on a job site.
Although MoistureGard 2.0 cannot solve the existing moisture problem within the concrete sub floor itself, it can prevent high moisture and pH from concrete slabs from reaching carpet tile backing, where it could cause plasticizer degradation and odor problems.
