InterfaceFLOR receives first third-party environmental verification for carpet

March 11, 2009—InterfaceFLOR, manufacturer of modular carpet, announced that it has been confirmed as the first North American carpet manufacturer to receive a third party-verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

According to the company, EPD verification is based on lifecycle analysis of environmental performance, with a much higher level of detail, product information, and disclosure than other certifications. EPD reportedly allows a better and more consistent means to translate overall sustainability characteristics to customers.

EPDs address consistent factors based on full lifecycle assessment (LCA) that InterfaceFLOR reportedly already uses in its own product measurement, such as progress on reducing dependence on virgin raw materials, reducing fossil fuel dependence and using renewable energy, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

InterfaceFLOR says it chose to base its EPD on the Convert group of products because they represent the company’s next generation of product.
