October 25, 2004—InterGen announces that its Burlington office has achieved LEED Certification from the US Green Building Council. The Council’s LEED Program (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) sets standards for developing high performance, sustainable buildings, and defining “green building” through a common standard of scientific measurement. The InterGen Burlington facility was one of the first buildings in the country to achieve LEED certification for commercial interiors.
Specific design elements of the InterGen office include use of recycled materials in floors, walls, and ceilings, indirect lighting, water and air filtration systems, and low-energy appliances and office equipment.
InterGen, a global power generation firm, is operating or building a total of 18 power stations representing nearly 16,000 megawatts. InterGen is a Shell-Bechtel venture.
The US Green Building Council is the nation’s leading coalition of corporations, builders, universities, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations working together to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live and work. Founded in 1993, the Council has grown to more than 4,000 member companies and organizations.
