November 9, 2001—The memberships of Building Officials and Code Administrators International (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) and Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI) will consider resolutions outlining the timeline for merger of these organizations into the International Code Council (ICC) at their respective annual business meetings this fall. The resolutions considered by each membership will be identical in purpose to remove any ambiguity as to the intended result one united ICC by January 2003.
The purpose of the resolutions will be to authorize the development of a merger plan to be delivered to the members at the 2002 Joint Annual Conference in Fort Worth, TX. An affirmative vote by the BOCA, ICBO and SBCCI members at the September 29-October 3, 2002 Joint Conference would authorize the implementation of the plan and the merger of the organizations. The final step will be the implementation of the merger plan, with a projected target date of January 2003 for the completed merger into the ICC.
Since last year, when the memberships adopted resolutions “to work toward an ultimate goal of creating a single Model Code Organization,” the three organizations have been meeting to develop the organizational model, transition and implementation plans for the single model code organization. The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) continues to work with ICC to facilitate the merger.
