December 8, 2004—International Rectifier IR, a provider of power management technology, announced that its Newport, Wales, facility has won another energy efficiency award in the United Kingdom, this time given by the ARENA Network in Wales.
IR Newport’s Facilities Director Stuart Langdon said, “Since acquiring the site in 2002, we have worked diligently to reduce our annual energy consumption by 25% while increasing production volumes by more than 70%. One important step taken in 2003 was to institute an automated, activity-based, energy use monitoring and targeting system. The system has allowed us to detect and avoid energy waste as well as reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Initial detection of avoidable waste reduced the site’s carbon dioxide emissions by 170 tonnes per month and carbon dioxide emissions are continually being reduced. We thank ARENA Network for the honor and the opportunity to share best practices with our colleagues in the industry.”
