September 24, 2003—Construction workers will benefit from increased attention to safety andhealth issues under an alliance signed between the International SafetyEquipment Association and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration(OSHA) during the National SafetyCongress in Chicago. The Alliance unites ISEA and OSHA on safety and healthissues in heavy construction worksites, with a particular focus on theproper selection, use, and maintenance of personal protective equipment(PPE).
OSHA and ISEA will disseminate information on the appropriate forms of PPE,while promoting the value of its use to mitigate the many hazards found inheavy construction. Both organizations will also provide electronic linksfor users to obtain beneficial materials available on their Web sites.Additionally, communication between ISEA members and OSHA personnel will bepromoted, particularly with OSHA’s compliance assistance specialists, inorder to stay current with developments in the field.
The alliance calls for the collection and sharing of information on thelatest equipment technologies and best practices related to PPE withconstruction employers, labor organizations, insurance providers, otherstate and federal government officials, and safety and health professionals.Representatives of OSHA and ISEA will also participate in forums,stakeholder meetings, conferences, and various industry events to promotethe effectiveness of safety and health programs.
ISEA is a trade association that represents companies that manufacturesafety equipment. Its members include companies that design and manufactureclothing and equipment used in factories, construction sites, hospitals andclinics, farms, schools, and laboratories.
