Invensys: Technologies must integrate to make facilities safer, more energy efficient

July 5, 2002—At the 2002 BuildingsNY annual conference in June, Bob Williams, vice president of Invensys—a leader in the management of production and energy resources—called on the buildings industry to work together to make tall buildings more secure and energy efficient.

He said that one of the major challenges for many urban commercial properties is that rising vacancy rates and declining profits are making it more difficult for building owners to have the resources needed to improve security and comfort. He added that various groups that must work together with building owners, operators, and managers—including architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and professionals in the fields of building security, energy management, HVAC, controls and automation, software technology, and information technology.

He also released the results of a global survey of fifty industry leaders, which revealed the number-one desire across the board for buildings is energy efficiency. The respondents also said they want buildings that:

  • anticipate the needs of their occupants;
  • have integrated subsystems;
  • have wireless protocols and controls; and
  • have asset utilization controls and management controls
