Investment Property Databank releases new edition of environmental analysis code

October 11, 2010—Investment Property Databank (IPD), an executive member of the Open Standards Consortium for Real Estate (OSCRE), has released a new, improved edition of its Environment Code, available for free download.

Sponsored by Barclays and Bureau Veritas and in association with Sustainable Building Alliance, the code is an award-winning and established framework for the collection, measurement and analysis of property environmental information.

Through the improved environmental health check, aligned with BREEAM in-use and LEED-EB, the Environment Code provides a good practice global measurement standard and can be used to measure and compare the environmental impact of any type of building anywhere in the world.

The code has been enhanced in a number of areas and can be applied by end-users or advisors of corporate real estate to:

  • gain clarity on environmental costs of all buildings in an estate;
  • compare environmental performance of buildings;
  • gain a clear and concise overview of relevant accreditation standards and legal compliance;
  • support effective decision-making on resource usage and waste production; and
  • accurately and confidently communicate environmental improvements.

Noting that collecting the data is often a headache for code users, OSCRE members are forming an interest group to prepare a global standard for exchanging information required by corporate occupiers during research, benchmarking, planning, and provisioning activities. Companies interested in participating with this interest group should contact Alan Edgar.
