August 6, 2008—J&J / Invision announced its partnership with The Dow Chemical Company to produce latex backing created with LOMAX Technology, which uses landfill gas as a renewable energy source. The recent collaboration makes J&J / Invision a leader in the commercial carpet industry in providing backing produced by this process, according to the announcement.
With sustainability at the forefront of all areas of J&J / Invisions manufacturing, carpet backing latex produced with LOMAX Technology allows the company to participate in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 27 million pounds annually from local landfills. This amount of captured greenhouse gas would have the same impact on the climate as eliminating carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 2,300 cars per year, according to the company.
Dows LOMAX Technology collects landfill gas from the Dalton, Georgia, landfill through a system of pipes and blowers. This captured landfill gas fuels the Emulsion Polymers plant by replacing about 90 percent of its natural gas consumption to manufacture latex used in carpet backing. With this technology Dow is eliminating the use of approximately 240 billion Btu of fossil fuels, or enough electricity used to heat 2,100 homes each year in the United States. They are also able to reduce oil consumption by more than 200,000 barrels per year.
J&J / Invision says backing produced with LOMAX Technology offers customers the same high performance product with a smaller environmental footprint. For more information visit J&J / Invision Web site.
