Johnson Controls added to Calvert Social Index for leadership in sustainability

February 11, 2009—Johnson Controls, global, multi-industrial provider of energy-efficient and sustainable solutions, has been added to the Calvert Social Index, a broad-based, rigorously constructed benchmark for measuring the performance of US-based socially responsible companies.

The Calvert Social Index Committee notes that Johnson Controls, along with its 140,000 employees around the world, “is on a trajectory toward sustainability leadership, providing products and services that will help make a cleaner environment, as well as a more efficient society and economy.”

Calvert, which promotes sustainable and responsible investing, created the Calvert Social Index as a benchmark for measuring the performance of the 1,000 largest companies in the US, represented by stocks listed on the NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX. Calvert conducts a social audit in a number of categories including products, environment, workplace, and integrity. Companies that meet its criteria are recommended for inclusion. Calvert believes companies that operate with integrity toward their employees, communities, and the environment are better positioned for success.
