Johnson Controls adopts BIFM qualification

Johnson Controls is the first organization to run an in-house training program leading to the BIFMs professional qualification. The Institute already accredits university courses at seven universities, but this is the first time an in-house manager development and training program has been accredited.

Johnson Controls developed a six-month pilot program, which began in January. The workshops cover themes such as commercial focus examining the legal and financial aspect of FM. BIFM retains responsibility for assessing and monitoring the program and ensuring consistency and quality of delivery.

Director of professional development at BIFM, Valerie Everitt, said: “We see the accreditation of in-house training programs as an important step in making the BIFM qualification more widely accessible and giving active support to in-house training initiatives. BIFM would encourage other companies to follow the example of Johnson Controls.”

Don Kenny, MD at Johnson Controls Integrated FM, commented: “We see our new Customer Business Program as being of critical importance in helping prepare our people to successfully improve their skills to maximize their career potential and to help meet Johnson Controls objectives.”
