November 21, 2003—The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has selected Johnson Controls, Inc., to provide security and monitoring for the water resources serving its 5,200-square-mile service area. Metropolitan is a cooperative of 26 member public agencies that provide drinking water to nearly 18 million people in parts of Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties.
Under the contract, valued at approximately $9.5 million, Johnson Controls will work with Metropolitan and TRC-Security Consulting to design the overall security solution for more than 60 sites. An access control system with several hundred readers and cameras, digital CCTV recording and software, and wireless CCTV will be installed to help monitor the sites. A Five-year service agreement will ensure continued upkeep. These systems will be integrated through Johnson Control’s Cardkey P2000 security management system.
