Johnson Controls awarded global facility management contract with Agilent Technologies

May 12, 2004—Agilent Technologies has awarded Johnson Controls a contract for the facilities management of its entire global real estate portfolio. Under the five-year agreement, Johnson Controls will provide more than 70 services across Agilent’s 17 million square feet of owned and leased properties in 30 countries across the Americas, Asia and Europe. Services include mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems operations and maintenance, building fabric maintenance and repair, project management and general services including custodial, grounds, reprographics and office services.

Johnson Controls will conduct this wide range of project management and facility support services at Agilent facilities including data centers, laboratories, manufacturing plants, field offices, administrative space and the headquarters in Palo Alto, California. Johnson Controls will use a combination of on-site and truck-based staff, supported by key suppliers, linked by internationally based call centers with multiple language capability to manage the facilities portfolio. There is an increasing trend for global companies to outsource their facility management so they may focus on their core competencies, increase operational flexibility and reduce their cost structure.

In July 2001, Agilent selected Johnson Controls to handle outsourced facility operations and maintenance responsibilities at its Colorado facilities in Loveland, Fort Collins and Colorado Springs. Johnson Controls has progressively increased its business with Agilent since that time.
