April 14, 2008—Johnson Controls, a global leader in building automation, announces a significant update of its industry leading Metasys building management system, improving the user experience and extending its wireless functionality. The system now supports end-to-end wireless building infrastructure, includes new software features and has an enhanced user interface, says Johnson.
The Metasys building management system integrates building systems and equipment to provide centralized monitoring and control and a high degree of automation. Metasys software organizes and interprets events, audits and other critical data. It allows monitoring and control from any Web-enabled device. The result is buildings that are more comfortable, safe and sustainable, says Johnson.
The new Metasys release supports end-to-end wireless monitoring and control using the ZigBee Field Bus Router System. Previous Metasys releases required dedicated connections between the network control engine, field controllers and zone sensors. Components can now communicate wirelessly without added hardware.
Wireless infrastructure is a practical, economical, flexible and esthetically pleasing alternative to traditional wired systems and controls. By eliminating the need to run wire through walls and ceilings, wireless building infrastructure reduces installation costs and makes building configurations easier to change and upgrade. It also makes buildings more sustainable by reducing the use of installation materials.
