March 17, 2004—Johnson Controls has formed a strategic alliance with InnerWireless to offer an in-building wireless distribution system that provides complete wireless coverage for a full range of voice and data services. This innovative technology, the InnerMobile wireless distribution system, is installed once, then can be modified and expanded without intrusive and costly infrastructure changes.
Installed in commercial office buildings, campuses, shopping malls, hospitals, convention centers, parking structures—any institution or commercial enterprise—the InnerMobile system helps eliminate dead signal spots and facilitates the expanding number of wireless applications and devices according to Johnson Controls. These include wireless LANs, personal communications services (PCS), cell phones, PDAs and two-way radios for maintenance and security.
The InnerMobile system will also enable wireless building automation in conjunction with the Johnson Controls Metasys building management system. The wireless infrastructure will help the Metasys system access data from multiple enterprise applications and assimilate the data into meaningful information that helps busy managers operate more efficiently.
This technology will help customers seamlessly and cost effectively integrate fire and security systems and other building controls, whether they are in one building or spread across a corporate campus, Johnson Controls explains.
