Johnson Controls has been honored as a Wisconsin Business Friend of the Environment for 2001 in the Environmental Stewardship category. Johnson Controls was cited for building the Brengel Technology Center, one of the nation’s first buildings to receive a Green Building designation under a new comprehensive environmental certification system. The seven-story Brengel Center, which opened last year in downtown Milwaukee, is a working showcase for the company’s technologies and provides office space for about 400 employees.
The Brengel Center’s green features include natural lighting, personal environment workspace controls for employee comfort, reuse of building materials, an open green space courtyard, and good access to alternative transportation. The US Green Building Council certified the Brengel Center as a Green Building under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. The Wisconsin Business Friend of Environment Awards are presented annually by the Wisconsin Environmental Working Group, an affiliate of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce. The awards program, in its twelfth year, recognizes businesses that demonstrate innovative approaches to environmental protection.
