November 19, 2003—Sinai Health System of Chicago has contracted with Johnson Controls, Inc., to help the organization make facility improvements and streamline facility operations and maintenance, which are intended to result in cost savings for the entire health system over a 5-year period. Johnson Controls will assist in the upgrading of the chiller plant, lighting systems, and waste management system. The cost of making these improvements will be offset through guaranteed energy savings. A natural progression was to enter into a service agreement to ensure that the equipment remains in peak, energy-efficient operating condition.
In addition, Johnson Controls will provide four management-level employees on site to oversee and help manage facility operations. Under the operations and maintenance program, the company will assume responsibility for building maintenance, equipment operations, and facility engineering services. This arrangement enables the health system to remain focused on its primary mission of providing quality health services and is expected to lower operating costs. Through this arrangement, Johnson Controls says it can help Sinai Health System turn some of its operational expenses into savings.
Members of the Sinai Health System are Mount Sinai Hospital, Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, Sinai Community Institute, and Sinai Medical Group.
