May 28, 2003—Johns Hopkins University has selected Johnson Controls, Inc., to conduct an energy efficiency program that is expected to result in at least $700,000 in utility savings each year.
From January through May 2003, Johnson Controls will study energy use on campus to identify ways to eliminate 10 to 20 percent of the college’s current utility costs. Expected recommendations include changes to lighting, water, and electrical operations. According to Johns Hopkins, the university is already a Johnson Controls Metasys system user and it expects to integrate new controls where appropriate into that system.
Construction process is expected to take 18 months to complete after the approval of the recommendations made by Johnson Controls. Johns Hopkins expects to see a return on the investment within three to seven years.
