Johnson Controls, Inc. and its Electronic Systems USA, Inc. (ESUSA) subsidiary will install the latest in building automation systems for Continental Airlines at Newark (N.J.) International Airport. The Johnson Controls and ESUSA combination creates cost savings for Continental by integrating the existing facility controls infrastructure with modern direct digital controls equipment.

The contracts, totaling $2.05 million, include:

  • A new Metasys Building Automation System for control of several new air handling units and variable air volume boxes.
  • An ESUSA UNITYTM multi-vendor platform interface for integrating two subsystems, including existing Honeywell equipment, with the new Metasys system.
  • A five-year preventative maintenance service agreement covering the existing building controls system.

The Continental Airlines Global Gateway construction program at Newark International involves construction of a new concourse, including 12 wide body aircraft gates, a baggage handling system, a new federal inspection service center and improvements to parking, concessions, restaurants and restrooms. Completion is planned for 2001.
