Kanotech emergency response solution delivered in 48 hours for under $10,000

November 20, 2002—Kanotech Information Systems has just launched its “Emergency Support GIS in 48 Hours” program. By overcoming two large issues often faced by small- to medium-sized governments, budget and availability of data, Kanotech hopes this program will help many communities gain the benefits that a geographic information system (GIS) can provide. The program is centered on CivicCenter Emergency Support, software developed by Kanotech that enables communities to plan for, respond to, and recover from emergencies more effectively.

Each community participating in the “Emergency Support GIS in 48 Hours” program will receive Kanotech’s CivicCenter Emergency Support software populated with street centerline data and key information on public buildings, schools, and hospitals at a significantly reduced cost from its retail value. Together, CivicCenter Emergency Support and this valuable information provide communities with the tools that they need to plan better, respond faster, and recover easier from emergencies, reports Kanotech.

CivicCenter Emergency Support provides users with immediate access to floor plans for public buildings, tracking of hazardous materials, the ability to track emergencies in real-time, and reports for post-situation evaluation purposes. Users also gain the ability to store and retrieve non-spatially related data, such as disaster plans and contact information for response providers and the media.

When tracking the use of resources and emergency event details for a specific situation, CivicCenter allows the user to locate the disaster zone on the map, identify areas that are at risk for adverse effects, and retrieve related documentation. This means that response teams are never more than a few mouse clicks away from information that is critical during an emergency situation.

CivicCenter Emergency Support is the newest module in the CivicCenter Suite (comprised of Properties, Water, Sewers, Signs, and Emergency Support modules), a GIS software solution specifically designed for local government. Used alone as a complete GIS solution or as a distribution component add-on to other technologies, such as those developed by ESRI or Autodesk, CivicCenter supports the needs of both technical and non-technical users.
