March 28, 2008—Keilhauer’s lounge seating joins the company’s executive, task and stacking chairs as GREENGUARD certified, meaning they have been recognized as environmentally conscious because they use low-emitting materials.
“We are dedicated to creating products that are sensitive to the environments in which they are placed, and are pleased to have this commitment confirmed by GREENGUARD,” says Mike Keilhauer, the company president. “Our executive, task, and stacking chairs were certified with GREENGUARD in 2006. With the addition of our lounge seating, we can now offer all of our seating products as low-emitting options for environmentally conscious designers, and for those seeking LEED credits for their projects.”
Keilhauer’s environmental initiatives go beyond using recycled and low-emitting materials in their products. All Keilhauer facilities were old factories that were completely gutted and converted to modern buildings. The factories were fitted with state-of-the art lighting with electronic ballasts and motion detectors, low flush toilets, and low glare double-thick curtain walls.
At Keilhauer’s headquarters in Toronto, Canada, all the electricity used to power the factory and offices comes from 100 percent green power sources provided through Bullfrog Power, a green electricity retailer.
