January 28, 2008—Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, Missouri, built its first on-campus housing facility with a goal to design a space that encourages student-to-student interaction. The Gillespie Residence Hall and Student Center houses a lounge, game room, computer lab, private offices and student living areas. Design firm KAI, Harris-Stowe faculty, and KI selected pieces to create a warm, comfortable esthetic for students, while creating a look that ties together all the rooms in this multifunctional residence hall.

Design firm KAI and Harris-Stowe looked at several manufacturers and selected KI mainly because of its expansive furniture portfolio, according to KAI. “The depth of product offered by KI fulfilled every need,” said Pamela Todd, KAI senior interior designer. “The furniture blends with the surroundings and the color scheme contributes to the warm, timeless appeal.”

KI’s Soltice collection, along with Rado tables with custom tops, welcomes residents and visitors in the lobby. Eden multiple seating and customized Lola ottomans allow students to stretch out in the lounges. For a recreational, comfortable feel, the game room was outfitted with Venue stand-up height tables and Rapture stools, coupled with Maestro stack chairs and Jessa lounge seating.

The conference room features Synthesis tables and Versa chairs for flexible arrangements. WorkZone desking, Impress task chairs, and the WireWorks panel system were used in the reception area.
