KI wins two design awards for Einstein classroom furniture

July 8, 2002—Two of KI’s recent product introductions have earned Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). KI’s Einstein Classroom Furniture and Balance Overhead Storage Unit earned gold and bronze IDEA awards, respectively. Co-sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and BusinessWeek magazine, the IDEA awards recognize the hottest new designs of the year.

Judging criteria for each entry required fulfilling five areas of industrial design excellence: design innovation, benefit to the user, benefit to the client/business, ecological responsibility, and appropriate aesthetics and appeal.

Einstein chairs support both upright listening postures and forward postures with proper lumbar support and lightweight, shatterproof ABS hard plastic backs and seats. The furniture weighs 20 percent less than conventional hard plastic products and chairs nest on top of desks at the end of the day to speed up nightly janitorial services.

KI’s Balance Overhead Storage Unit features lightweight doors that can be opened and closed while seated, with less than five pounds of force and with a closed fist – making it compliant with the American With Disabilities Act (ADA). For more information, contact KI.
